Salsa Type Thing

My mother and S and the youngest one are in Lahore and the rest of us at home are having an awesome time of it. :p

In m childhood, we were never allowed to eat beef. Both my parents have problems with high blood pressure and the doctors told them not to go near red meat…so, we only ate it at ‘other people’s houses’ and it was a big thing. LoL. The other day i made something for my dad and then the rest of us finally got around to making quarter-pounder burgers of which my brother ate FOUR and was still famished. We made a silly salsa-type-thing that went excellent with the burgers. I’m putting the recipe here. Make it the day before to let the seasonings mature properly.

Salsa Type Thing:

Tomatoes  5

Onion        1 (small)

Garlic        5 cloves crushed

Ginger       1/2 tea spoon

Salt:           1/2 teaspoon or more as per taste

Black OR white pepper (i prefer freshly ground black)  1tsp

Sugar        1/2 teaspoon

Olive oil    2tbsp

Method:

Mix everything in a chopper (food processor) for the least time it takes for it all to combine and the onion to get chopped. In a non-stick frying pan, heat the oilve oil and then flash fry the salsa-type-thing for a good minute…keep the pan moving; you don’t want anything sticking to it.

Salsa type thing is ready. Leave to cool and refrigerate in a large bottle. If you want, use some paprika instead of 1/2 tsp pepper.

The good thing is: its almost fat free and rich in anti-oxidants thanks to the tomatoes. Anti oxidants are known to slow down aging too.

I’m going to be eating it in prodigious quantities from now on; reverse the aging process.

Dear world, this birthday, i’m turning 20, not 22.

Hmmm…reverse the aging process eh? Are the anti-oxidants not reduced in strength by exposing the tomatoes to heat? Just something i think i heard.

haha..” In a non-stick frying pan” “you don’t want anything sticking to it” Good plan :)

BTW, are you really that young!?! I thought you were at least 24/25 based on your education level. Wow…well done, hats kufis off to you…hehe.

I love making (and eating) burgers… did you BBQ them?

BrainSmoke: That’s why we flash-fry them. Lesser damage to the anti-oxidants. I just don’t like it uncooked. Its okay if you don’t want to…cook the onion before chopping it, then. Follow the rest of the recipe as it is.

And yes, i am that ‘young’ (not). That was funny actually. I finished my Masters a year ago (this august makes a year) and i was always getting this ‘WHAT? You’re not 21 yet?’ thing…Its a bit weird age…i mean, last year, this time i was just 20 and now I’m breathing down 22’s neck…makes me feel ancient. Now that I’ve wasted a year, wherever i go, I’d be WITH the class. Finally.

Haleem: No, we just fry the patties. We BBQ them sometimes but that takes proper prep and a party going. :)
